To Be With You…

9 May

Hope everyone had a lovely day yesterday (celebrating for all the moms out there!).

I just wanted to post this for today and state for the record, I would love to live in this video for a day (and steal her dress and flower crown)!

The Honey Trees – To Be With You

Zooey & Winnie

4 Apr

*I’m aware this has nothing to do with fashion/style but it’s too cute not to share*

I’m a total big corny, moldy cheeseball right now with this video. I’ve played it more times than I can count and it brings a huge goofy smile to my face each time.

There will be a new Winnie the Pooh film out shortly this year and Zooey Deschanel will be penning at least 3 tracks for the film including the snippet you see below (She & Him will be together to perform the original end credit song “So Long”).

I have to admit, I’m kinda excited for this…(yes, i’ll let myself out the door now)

Ellen Page on Real Time {Vanishing of the Bees}

28 Mar

*disclaimer= I’m aware this isn’t fashion and or style focused but I quite frankly don’t give a darn about that (hee)*

For this late night feature post, I would like to present to you this great video of Ellen Page appearing on Real Time with Bill Maher recently. She is currently staring in the dark comedy Super (which I unluckily missed out on at TIFF) and I believe there are some US dates coming up soon (no Canadian ones that I can see as of yet), so check that one out for sure.

In the video posted below, Ellen speaks about a documentary called the Vanishing of the Bees, which she does the narration for.

Now, just as an aside .. I’ve loved this tiny Canadian girl ever since she made this statement:

I am a feminist and I am totally pro-choice, but what’s funny is when you say that people assume that you are pro-abortion. I don’t love abortion but I want women to be able to choose and I don’t want white dudes in an office being able to make laws on things like this. I mean what are we going to do – go back to clothes hangers? [in the UK newspaper The Guardian, responding to being asked about the controversy aroused by her role in Juno (2007)] c/o Imdb

My love only continues to grow for her as she discusses amongst the panel the alarming rate of bees disappearing, while also pointing out the disconcerting primary focus the public has with the economy vs. the environment and failing to see how these two go hand in hand. She really conveys the urgency of the matter detailed in VotB well and truly gets the message across how action must be taken quickly (or the consequences will be astronomical – the effects can already be seen).

All in all.. I love her and here is the video & a bonus cute pic from the upcoming movie Super (if it gets taken down, you can also find it at Ellen Page Online):

I Present To You…A Paper Crown For Your Time.

18 Feb

Didn’t I tell you already that any smart arse titles just aren’t going to come my way. *Just kidding*

Anyhow, I know I’ve recently posted about Lauren Conrad’s new line for Kohl’s but she has another line coming out as well called Paper Crown. I think this line in particular will be a little more upscale, yet her personal touches will still resonate throughout the line.

Yes, some may argue that this line (in addition to her Kohl’s line) isn’t breaking any new ground, with the classic cuts and neutral palette.  I’m not one of those people. I  .love. every. single. piece. Even the dresses I know won’t flatter my figure in the least still look very appealing. One of the dresses in particular (that I’ve posted below), has a creamy backdrop with a soft, romantic print interweaving throughout…and it looks fantastic!

I swear, she always gets it right!

Check out some of my faves….

The Greatest Creation Yet! Red Velvet Pancakes!

13 Feb

It’s a day before Valentine’s Day, and I wanted to make something that would best satisfy cravings and would be apporiate for the day. Cupcakes are usually a safe bet for me (Red Velvet is supreme)…then I remembered stumbling onto this beauty:

Can you believe it! Red Velvet Pancakes! It’s such an obvious choice slapping you right in the face. I can’t believe I couldn’t even think to create this myself first as a self-proclaimed Red Velvet lover! For shame…tsk, tsk.

Anyhow, I will be creating this brilliant masterpiece of fine food after this  post (wait for V Day, puh-lease!) but here is the recipe:

1 cup all-purpose flour
1 teaspoon baking powder
1/4 teaspoon baking soda
1/4 teaspoon salt
3 tablespoons white sugar
2 tablespoons unsweetened cocoa powder
1 large egg, lightly beaten
3/4 buttermilk
1/4 cup creme fraiche or sour cream
3 tablespoons unsalted butter, melted
1 tablespoon red food coloring
1 teaspoon vanilla extract
For the Mascarpone Spread:
4 oz softened mascarpone
2 oz creme fraiche
2 tablespoons white sugar
1/2 teaspoon vanilla extract
1/2 teaspoon lemon zest
In a large bowl whisk together the dry ingredients. In a separate bowl whisk together the egg, buttermilk, and creme fraiche/sour cream, melted butter, red food coloring, and vanilla extract. Add them together and whisk just until combined. A little lumpy is fine. Heat a frying pan or griddle over medium high heat. When hot add butter or oil to grease, followed by a small scoop of the batter. Wait for the pancakes to bubble (2-3 minutes), flip and cook for a minute or two more. Meanwhile, mix all of the ingredients in the mascarpone spread together, and use to garnish the pancakes with some maple syrup!
There you have it. Here a few more photo’s to tickle the fancy…

Oh my goodness.....*fans my face*

Love her style: LC Lauren Conrad for Kohl’s Spring 2011

12 Feb

Once again Lauren releases another easy going, light, breezey and beautifully chic line.

What can I say, I just love how Lauren puts her self together. Her style  is always effortlessly chic (How many times can I say chic) with a touch of class.

Her new collection unveiled recently online and here a few of my personal favourites from the LC Lauren Conrad for Kohl’s Spring 2011 Lookbook. While it stinks that Canadians are left out in the cold for her line, I’m hoping eventually they will make way across the border. Till then, enjoy…
